It’s LeVar Burton’s birthday today, and we wanted to do something a little special. Let’s take a moment to tell you why we think one of our favorite childhood staples is so awesome!
He was the coolest brother in space
Sure, he was blind. But that’s what made his character Lieutenant Junior Grade Geordi La Forge on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” so cool. We just needed him to keep his VISOR on.
He made reading FUNdamental
Whether you liked it or not, he got us reading. Especially since it was on TV. “Reading Rainbow” ran for 25 years which is amazing in the TV world. And although the show is no longer around, he is still teaching kids the joys of reading through computer games and apps. And look! He got to read with Kermit!
He got to party with Cameo
Okay, well not exactly. He played a cop in the video trying to shut everything down. But who wouldn’t want to be anywhere Cameo wasn’t?
He made a resurgence in TV today
LeVar Burton on “Community”? Yes, please! “Big Bang Theory”? Okay!
He is still apart of one of the biggest miniseries in TV history
Even 25 years and beyond, “Roots” is still one of the, if not, the biggest TV moments in history that really showed the rest of the nation the injustices blacks suffered. Kunta Kinte is one of the the widest recognized characters of all time.
LeVar Burton, you’re still cool!
