With awards season coming around, controversy is bound to follow, especially in an entertainment industry that doesn’t always reward diverse voices.
This year, Regina King is the actress up for discussion, considering her stellar performances in T.V. and cinema. The 47-year-old actress, who’s been in the business since she was a teenager on 227, excelled this year with acclaimed performances on Netflix’s Seven Seconds and the movie If Beale Street Could Talk.
However, recently the Screen Actors Guild Awards announced their nominations and King was nowhere to be found. The Internet was not amused.
Though King has been acknowledged to a degree with three Emmy wins, her diverse catalog of performances could definitely get more shine.
Especially when this woman literally has a performance to match your every shmood.

Militant mood
American Crime (Season 1)
In this critically acclaimed show, King plays a Muslim woman trying to get her brother off of death row. The show is complete with one of King’s most stunning monologues in the clip above.
She definitely represents a woman willing to do anything for her family, her Black community and her spiritual beliefs.
Consider yourself inspired.

If Beale Street Could Talk
King has definitely played her fair share of mothers, but in this flick, King is now fighting for her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend who’s accused of raping a White woman.
The love King’s character shows for the young couple proves she’s willing to literally go outside the country to keep them safe and out the system.
Anyone with a parental spirit will be moved.

Seven Seconds
Sometimes we can bottle up our emotions in an unhealthy way, especially after experiencing a traumatic event such as police or community violence.
Some of us won’t even let one tear fall so we can keep up our “strong” facade.
However, Netflix’s Seven Seconds will definitely get you open in a story about cops trying to cover up a Black boy’s death. King plays the mother of the boy and her desperate searches for answers is insightful and heartbreaking.
Have your tissue ready because this one’s definitely a tear-jerker.

Mad As Hell mood
Ray
In Ray, King played Margie Hendrix, one of Ray Charles‘ singers who catches feelings for him. Unfortunately, Ray doesn’t feel the same way about Margie and straight rage ensues on Margie’s part.
Now granted, Ray is a married man in the film, so Margie is technically the side bae.
But hey, feelings are feelings and King made sure all of them were felt through Margie’s piercing anger.

Humorous…But Still Mad As Hell…And Also Militant mood
The Boondocks
King’s most eclectic performance might not even come from a live-action drama or dramatic T.V. show. It might possibly be from Adult Swim’s The Boondocks and we didn’t even see Regina’s face.
In the sharp political animation, King brought the laughs by voicing the forever woke Huey Freeman and his gangsta-centric little brother Riley Freeman.
Thanks to King’s voice talent, we laughed, we cried, we got angry and we probably thought more deeply about politics.
Oscar!
