First Washington Church in Lancaster is stepping up to provide Thanksgiving assistance to those without homes. On Thanksgiving Day, the church will offer meals, mobile showers, and a clothing closet to people in need. According to WSOC, Pastor Johnnie Rose said they are prepared to serve anyone who arrives. Holly Furr, executive director of United Way of Lancaster County, noted that shelter requests were the top need for 211 callers earlier this year, with calls for eviction prevention up 157%. Rose and local leaders highlighted that many people in the community sleep in cars, camp in the woods, or move between temporary homes.
