There’s no doubt, black homeownership has increased significantly in the years following the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968. Still, a staggering 30% gap exists between African Americans and Whites when it comes to owning a home.  In fact, the black homeownership rate is 44% while White homeownership is at 74%. Closing the gap has proven difficult.  However, African Americans have made gains – despite challenges, including redlining, mortgage approvals and when the appraisal of homes factor in the process, African Americans still have steep hills to climb.  ‘COMMUNITY VOICES’ host, Ron Holland delves into this issue with housing advocate, Winston Robinson of the Applesauce Group.
