A new bill introduced in the North Carolina House of Representatives could more than double the state’s minimum wage by the end of the decade.

The “Fair Minimum Wage Act,” filed on Monday, March 10, has been sponsored by 15 Democratic lawmakers, with no Republican sponsors. If passed, the bill would raise the minimum wage to $10 per hour on January 1, 2026. In the ensuing years, the wage would increase by $2 each year, reaching $18 per hour by 2030. Currently, North Carolina’s minimum wage is $7.25.
