Lenny Kravitz is a rock star, personified. The fans who flocked to his Atlantic City show on Saturday, Nov. 2 (his second show of the weekend), were treated to what’s become an increasingly rare glimpse of the iconic singer rocking an east coast crowd.

It went down at the Ocean Casino Resort (formerly Revel, which famously opened with a Beyonce show in 2012, caught some hard times, but returned in 2018 (as Ocean) and has since returned to form as the biggest and easily most exciting casino resort in the coastal town). The venue was Ovation, big enough to hold over 5,000 comfortable seats but still cozy enough for intimate vibes, great sightlines, and acoustics.

As the crowd shuffled into the only east coast stop of the Blue Electric Light Tour, stragglers had to put some pep in their step as the familiar riff from Kravitz’s hit “Are You Gonna Go My Way” started exploding through the sound system, and the band proceeded never to take their foot off the gas. The New York City native’s set list included new tunes (like lead single “TK421” from his latest Blue Electric Light album) and vintage hits like “American Woman” and “I Belong To You.” The band (including guitar savant and long-time Kravtiz collaborator Craig Ross and female drummer Jas Kayser, who the lead noted saluted “Black Girl Magic”) was supertight as they effortlessly went through almost two hours of musical gems.

Kravitz standards like “It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over” and “Low” all resonated with the concert hall. The crowd never seemed to tire or get listless as Kravitz smoothly interacted with his fans, young and old(er). Things came to an almost abrupt end as Kravitz closed with the raucous “Fly Away.” But the crowd knew better, chanting for his return, and after about five minutes, the band eased back onto the stage to loud cheers. The closer turned out to be “Let Love Rule.” The stirring rendition moved Kravitz to walk through the crowd for an almost interactive experience. We say “almost” because security guards were stopping any foolishness but Kravitz did give out handshakes and the occasional hug.

We must mention that while in the crowd, Kravitz had on his usual impossibly tight denim jeans and what looked like a bedazzled halter top, that was backless. But hey, the man is a rock star, after all.

Love was definitely in the building, with Kravitz again proving that he is a driving force when it comes to music and plain good vibes.
